Peter Traugott, former president of television at Brillstein Entertainment Partners, has signed a three-year development deal with Universal Media Studios, NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greemblatt announced on Monday.
As part of the agreement, Traugott will produce scripted comedy and drama shows for NBC.
Traugott, who had been at Brillstein since 1996, will be joined at UMS by Rachel Kaplan, who served as executive VP, television production at Brillstein.
In making the announcement, Greenblatt touted Traugott's "deep commitment to developing outstanding television and attracting creative talent."
While acknowledging that leaving Brillstein was "a very tough decision," he added, " the chance to work with [Greenblatt] and his team at NBC, and be a part of what they’re building, was too good an opportunity to pass up. And I couldn’t be more excited that my colleague, Rachel Kaplan, chose to join me.”
During his tenure at Brillstein, Traugott produced such series as "The Sopranos," "Just Shoot Me," "NewsRadio" and "The Larry Sanders Show."
Prior to Brillstein, Traugott served as director of current programming for Fox Broadcasting, working on series such as "King of the Hill," "The Simpsons" and "Married With Children."
Traugott is being replaced by JoAnn Alfano, who previously served as executive vice president of entertainment at Lifetime Networks.
