Britney Spears is the latest to get the Lifetime biopic treatment, and the cable network has just set Australian actress Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) to play the pop star in “Britney.”

“Britney” is a two-hour TV movie that will purport to tell the tumultuous story of the pop icon’s rise to fame, fall from grace and eventual triumphant resurrection, firmly securing her position as one of the world’s greatest entertainers.

Well-documented milestones in the singer’s life including her relationship with Justin Timberlake, marriage to Kevin Federline and public breakdown will all be included.

Production begins this September in Vancouver for a 2017 premiere on Lifetime. Leslie Libman will direct from a script by Anne-Marie Hess.

“Britney” is produced by Asylum Entertainment for Lifetime. Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and Joan Harrison are executive producers.
