“Wow. Thank you all for this incredible outpouring of support,” series creator Dan Goor tweeted Thursday. “#brooklyn99 fans are the best fans in the world. It means the world to me and everyone else who works on the show.”
“I am still processing… don’t have all the words.. but.. These last 5 years have been incredible,” Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy, wrote on Twitter. “Thank you for all your love and support. We have the best fans. It’s been a huge honor to play Amy and be a part of this tremendous ensemble. NINE NINE!”
“Squad, we love you,” Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa on the comedy, tweeted. “What a gift this series has been: it’s been my honor. Your sadness is noted. NINE- NINE!”
“Do you know what it means to be heartbroken? Be. Cause. I. Do,” Marc Evan Jackson, who has the reoccurring role of Captain Holt’s (Andre Braugher) husband Kevin, tweeted, along with a story about the cancellation.
The comedy (which was axed by the network on the same day as “The Mick” and “The Last Man on Earth”) is already set to air its Season 5 closer on May 20 — which will now be its series finale.
The call to cancel the trio of sitcoms is tied to Fox’s addition of another night of football to its primetime lineup for the 2018-2019 season and the renewal of a large portion of the network’s freshman series renewed, an individual with knowledge of the programming decision tells TheWrap.
According to the most current data from Nielsen, which includes a week of delayed viewing where available, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was averaging a 1.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted demographic and 2.7 million total viewers in its 8:30 p.m. Sunday time slot.
Those numbers planted it on the bubble for renewal this year, but it has been a critical darling since Season 1, so it was considered more than likely to be picked up again.
I am still processing… don’t have all the words.. but.. These last 5 years have been incredible. Thank you for all your love and support. We have the best fans. It’s been a huge honor to play Amy and be a part of this tremendous ensemble. NINE NINE! #Brooklyn99pic.twitter.com/nmBFA2rm6I
