Bryce Dallas Howard will play Elton John’s mother in the biopic “Rocketman,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The Paramount Pictures film stars Taron Egerton as the iconic singer, while Jamie Bell and Richard Madden have also been cast. Egerton is set to sing John’s songs himself, with production scheduled to begin in August.

Dexter Fletcher is directing Egerton as he portrays John in the various stages of his legendary life. Lee Hall wrote the script for the package, and John is producing with Marv Films and Matthew Vaughn alongside John’s Rocket Pictures partner and husband David Furnish.

In 2012, John said he wanted Justin Timberlake to play him. Then, Tom Hardy’s name was being floated by producers on the film.

Howard most recently starred in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” as well as “Gold” and “Pete’s Dragon,” and will star in “Jurassic World 3.”

She is represented by WME, Management 360 and Slate PR. Variety first reported the news of her casting.
