Caitlyn Jenner will make her first talk show appearance on “Ellen’s” pre-taped Season 13 premiere Tuesday, during which the former Olympian told her host she feels “fabulous.”
Jenner recalled when she almost transitioned from male to female at age 39, but “just couldn’t do it,” and why now was different. She also spoke about “stealthy” cross-dressing in the past, claiming to have never been caught despite being such a public figure. Jenner assured Ellen DeGeneres that she doesn’t miss being Bruce at all and that she still does everything she always used to do as a man — including golfing from the men’s tees.
Caitlyn also discussed the difficulty of coming out to her mother, and wife Kris, which came out on Thursday via four Ellentube videos. “The kids get it,” she said — that generation was never a problem.
“I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago, whenever it was that the whole gay marriage issue came up, at first, I was not for it. I mean, I thought, ‘I’m a traditionalist,'” she said. “But as time goes on, like a lot of people on this issue, I’ve really changed thinking here to: ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness’ … If that word ‘marriage’ is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.”
Before marriage comes dating — something that Jenner says she is not exactly ready for or actively seeking. Now that she is a woman, but was always attracted to women, there is curiosity out there by some folks about which gender Jenner will date. The “I Am Cait” star dodged DeGeneres’ question on the topic a bit, but shared some thoughtful points about the issue with regards to the trans community in general.
“So many of them today transition at a very young age and the whole dating thing comes in. Everybody wants to have a partner, everybody would love to have a family, and for trans people sometimes that can be extraordinarily difficult to do.” she continued. “And so it is an issue that’s big in the community.”
As for her, love life isn’t high on the docket currently.
“For me, I’m at such a different place in life. I already have too many children. Just kidding. Just kidding,” Jenner said. “I have 10 children. I’ve got my eighthgrandchild in the oven with Kimberly. I have all these wonderful kids. I’ve kind of passed that stage in my life, but yes, would I like to find a partner in life to share my life with? Yeah. I’m sure I will at some point. Right now I’m just very busy doing a lot of things and kind of just getting used to where I’m at and who I’m at. As time goes on I’ll deal with that subject.”
