Carrie Underwood to Headline Fox Holiday Special

Singer returns to network with production team from “American Idol”

Multi-platinum recording artist and Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood will headline "Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special," a two-hour variety special airing Monday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. on Fox.

Underwood will perform new music from her upcoming album as well as previous hits and holiday classics. She will be joined on stage by guests including Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and David Cook.

The special will be produced and directed by Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman. Lythgoe was an executive producer of "American Idol" and is the co-creator and executive producer of "So You Think You Can Dance."

Shankman directed feature films including “Bedtime Stories,” “Hairspray” and “The Wedding Planner.” His upcoming projects include “Sinbad” and “Bob: The Musical.”

The special is a production of Big Red 2 Entertainment, a joint venture between Lythgoe and Simon Fuller, the creator and executive producer of "American Idol."

Underwood, who won season four of "American Idol," is a four-time Grammy Award winner and also received the 2009 Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year.

Her new album, “Play On,” will be released Nov. 3 on 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville.
