CBS Corp. has named Jim Lanzone, the current CEO of CBS Interactive, to the newly-created position of chief digital officer, the company announced on Monday.

Lanzone will continue in his role at CBS Interactive in addition to his new one. He will now oversee digital matters at the company and ensure that it has a collaborative and coordinated digital media strategy across its divisions.

This will include the cultivation and growth of new and existing digital streaming services, helping to shape where and how CBS’ content is consumed and exploring the potential of new platforms.

Since joining CBS Interactive as president in 2011, Lanzone has led the division to record financial and audience growth while playing an integral role in CBS’s overall multiplatform digital strategy.

Under Lanzone’s leadership, CBS Interactive’s audience has more than doubled. CBS Interactive currently has more than 25 brands in entertainment, sports, news, technology and gaming — including the recent launches of CBS All Access and CBSN. Lanzone was promoted to CEO of CBS Interactive in 2013.

“I’m very pleased today to be expanding Jim’s role in the development of this increasingly important part of our company,” CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves said. “Now, as our first-ever chief digital officer, Jim will bring that expertise and influence to all of CBS’s businesses by working hand in hand with digital operations across the Corporation. I look forward to the many contributions he will make as we continue to transform ourselves as a premium content company in the interactive age.”

Lanzone joined CBS Interactive from Clicker Media Inc., where he was co-founder and CEO. It was acquired by CBS in 2011. Prior to his work at Clicker, Lanzone was the CEO of Ask.com. He holds a B.A. from UCLA and a J.D./M.B.A. from Emory University.
