CBS Sets Jan. 4 Premiere Date for Paula Abdul’s ‘Live to Dance’

New reality-competition series slotted between cycles of “Survivor” … and directly against the next round of “American Idol”

It's on.

CBS has set a Jan. 4 premiere date for the new Paula Abdul-hosted reality-competition series "Live to Dance," setting up what appears to be a head-to-head battle with the often-scattered entertainer's former show, Fox's "American Idol.

The new show will follow up its two-hour Tuesday-night debut the next night, assuming its regular slot on Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. It will then begin regular live broadcasts a week later, on Jan. 12.

The premiere will showcase auditions in New York and Los Angeles for dancers vying to compete on the show. On the Jan. 12 broadcast, six selected dance acts will begin competing for a $500,000 prize.

Staying in her comfort zone, Abdul will be seated among a panel of three judges that also includes Travis Payne and Kimberly Wyatt. Andrew Gunsberg will handle the hosting duties.
