Charlie Sheen opened his “The Tonight Show” interview on Wednesday with sexual innuendo about the granddaughter of someone off-camera — as he does — before focusing on the topic at hand: Jay Leno‘s pending departure.
Sheen called the host’s (latest) exit “sad” and “awesome” at the same time, lamenting that this was the last time they’d see each other in that sort of setting. Leno broke the pity party with a joke: “I’ll still see you by the side of the road.”
That’s when Leno outed the former “Two and A Half Men” star as the most-canceled guest in Leno’s “Tonight Show” history — but at least his last-minute call-offs were creative. Sometimes. The last time Sheen had to bail on the show — when he “went a little too hard in the afternoon” — the actor went so far as to stage a car crash.

“I told Dylan, my old driver, to actually go into a skid with me belted in, so there’d be tire tracks on the road, and then put the thing into the ditch,” Sheen recounted.
“This was pre-texting, but I think we sent you a photo somehow,” Sheen said.
Some of his other excuses were less planned out — and less original. “You had your wisdom teeth pulled four times,” Leno said.
“I had 16 wisdom teeth,” Sheen replied.

Still, there was an upside to having Sheen in the world of late night comedy. “I also have to thank you because without you, the monologue would have been half as long,” Leno quipped.
The “Tonight Show” then ran a montage of Sheen jokes, which the actor took about as graciously as one could.
