Reporter Wrecks Carrie Fisher Death Segment With Awkward Chewbacca Roar (Video)

And the set goes silent

Silence ensued on the set of a GloboNews segment when a reporter discussing the death of “Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher roared like Chewbacca.

Mediaite translated the segment in which Brazilian journalist Jorge Pontual made the unexpected joke about celebrity reactions to Fisher’s death on Tuesday.

“Many people telling how much they loved Carrie Fisher, many celebrities remarking on this loss,” Pontual said in Portuguese.

“But the most emotional reaction was from Chewbacca, that ‘Star Wars’ character,” he continued. “He said, ‘HHHGGRRRRGRAAAARRR.’”

Pontual was completely serious while doing the Wookiee roar, prompting awkward silence from everyone else on set before finally giggling.

Pontual was criticized on Twitter for being insensitive, to which he responded with a picture of Princess Leia cuddling with and kissing Chewbacca.

Fisher died on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday. Throughout the holiday weekend, her brother and mother Debbie Reynolds updated fans, telling them Fisher was in stable condition until family spokesman Simon Halls told media outlets that the actress had passed away at the age of 60.
