While her mother worries what love could do to her prospects, those concerns become irrelevant when a horrific car crash kills Moretz’ entire family, leaving her in a coma. The movie then follows her as she has an out-of-body experience, watching doctors try to save her, and friends and family visit her in the hospital.

She must choose whether to fight for life when her family is gone, or allow herself to die. The choice becomes even more painful when the boy she fell in love with arrives at the hospital. He’d previously told her he couldn’t write songs about things that make him happy, and thus had written no songs about her.
