Chris Ball Exits Newmarket to Start Indie Distributor Wrekin Hill

Ball’s new company will release films under the Wrekin Hill banner, as well as license the Newmarket Films label

Newmarket Films co-founder Chris Ball has left to start Wrekin Hill, a new distributor that will continue to jointly release movies with his old company.

Wrekin Hill, an independently financed distribution and production company, will release films under the Wrekin Hill banner, and has also licensed the Newmarket Films label on a non-exclusive basis.

The two companies will jointly release titles, including the upcoming Peter Weir film "The Way Back" and "Hesher," a recent Sundance acquisition.

Late last year, Newmarket was acquired by Exclusive Media Group, where Ball (pictured, left) took on the title of co-chairman. Both Wrekin Hill and Newmarket will continue to jointly release flims from Exclusive.

“We at Exclusive are very excited to be able to continue our great relationship with Chris Ball, Rene Cogan and John Crye, and we look forward to working with Wrekin Hill in the upcoming years," said Nigel Sinclair, co-chairman of Exclusive.

Wrekin Hill said it's also working on a home entertainment distribution partnership, and plans to make other acquisitions.
