Chris Evans’ signature role as Captain America in the upcoming two “Avengers” movies looks like it will be his last as the Star-Spangled Avenger.
In an interview with the New York Times, Evans said: “You want to get off the train before they push you off.”
The Times added: “For now, he has no plans to return to the franchise and expects that planned reshoots in the fall will mark the end of his tenure in the familiar red, white and blue super suit.”
Could Evans be negotiating in the press for a new contract? This is not the first time Evans has suggested his days as Steve Rogers may soon come to an end.
“I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it,” Evans told USA Today last year. “However they want to proceed after ‘Avengers 4,’ it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.”
Evans will next be seen as Cap in “Avengers: Infinity War” which opens on April 27 and features Rogers uniting with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and other Marvel heroes to battle the deadly Thanos (Josh Brolin).
“Avengers 4,” which does not currently have a title, will follow in 2019.
