“Sex and the City” alum Chris Noth has joined the Season 3 cast of FX’s “Tyrant,” the cable network announced on Monday.

Noth is taking the series regular role of General William Cogswell, who was summarily transferred out of Abbudin. He returns to that country when Bassam (“Barry”) Al-Fayeed assumes the provisional presidency. Although initially he offers American support, General Cogswell will rise to power as his romantic history with LEILA reignites, and as his apparent (and hidden) idiosyncrasies are revealed.

Noth currently stars as Peter Florrick on CBS’ “The Good Wife,” which ends after this season. He’s perhaps best known for his role as Mr. Big on HBO’s “Sex and the City.” He is represented by Gersh Agency and Sanders Armstrong Caserta.

Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser, Gideon Raff and Avi Nir are executive producers on “Tyrant,” which will return in 2016.
