‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Behind the Scenes: Chris Pratt Is Drawn to Character’s Flaws (Video)

“I have a hunch that we’re doing something special, something that’s never been done before,” the actor says of the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Now that Marvel and Disney have done a good job of getting people excited about “Guardians of the Galaxy,” it’s time to start helping them connect to this band of misfits. The only place to start is with Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, as played by Chris Pratt.

Pratt provided narration for the latest look at the strangest chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explaining what drew him to the project.

“What attracted me to this role is really the arc for this character,” Pratt said. “Peter Quill, he’s the only human in this crazy world, traveling through space, getting to do whatever he wants.”

It sounds fun, “[b]ut there’s something missing in his life. Through the course of the movie, he has to learn that there’s more to life than just taking exactly what you want,” Pratt said.

The interview bits were interspersed with many of the clips fans have already seen throughout the trailer onslaught the studio has been behind. As some of the beautiful visuals and effects of the film flashed on the screen, Pratt said, “I’ve been in awe this whole time. I have a hunch that we’re doing something special, something that’s never been done before.”

A combination of humor, science fiction and superheroics, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is certainly something new. After meeting Peter Quill, something tells us we can look forward to additional looks at the rest of the team, and the actors and actresses who portray them.

Pratt is joined on the team by Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as Groot. “Guardians of the Galaxy” was directed and co-written by James Gunn, alongside Nicole Perlman. Produced by Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios production will be released to theaters by Walt Disney Studios on Friday, August 1.
