Sony Pictures is moving forward with “Passengers,” a sci-fi romance starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and newly-minted box office king Chris Pratt, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
After “Jurassic World” posted the largest domestic opening ever at the domestic box office, it’s a no brainer that studio chairman Tom Rothman finally gave the script a thumbs up to the tune of roughly $120 million.
The script has passed the desks of several studios and changed hands of stars like Reese Witherspoon and Rachel McAdams for Lawrence’s role and Keanu Reeves for Pratt’s. The incredibly in-demand stars begin production in July, with “The Imitation Game”‘s Morten Tyldum on board to direct.
Set in the future aboard a spacecraft, “Passengers” follows a man (Pratt) who awakens early from a cryogenic slumber and to spare himself from being lonely, decides to wake up a female passenger in Lawrence.
Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce for Original Film alongside Michael Maher of Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.
