Chrissy Teigen dug deep and gave big in honor of President Donald Trump’s birthday on Thursday — and no, Trump was not the beneficiary of her generosity.
“Lip Sync Battle” personality and frequent Trump critic Teigen took to Twitter on Thursday, the same day that the president turned 72, to announce a donation to the American Civil Liberties Union.
“happy birthday, @realDonaldTrump,” Teigen wrote in the tweet announcing the donation.
In her message, Teigen said that each member of her family had donated $72,000 to the ACLU, noting that she and her husband, singer/actor John Legend, are “outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration.”
Teigen continued, “These actions are cruel, anti-family and go against everything we believe this country should represent. The ACLU is committed to defending the rights and humanity of these vulnerable families. In addition to fighting for immigrants’ rights, they’re advocating for reproductive rights, voting rights, criminal justice reform, LGBT rights, 1st amendment rights and holding the Trump administration accountable whenever possible.”
Teigen went on to encourage her social-media audience to donate to the ACLU.
“If you would like to donate $7.20, $72, or whatever you like to the ACLU in honor of this blessed day, please go to www.aclu.org/72,” Teigen wrote.
Last week, as Trump’s birthday approached, Teigen urged her Twitter followers to sign his official birthday card, telling them to “make sure it’s from the heart!”
Screenshots of messages presumably left on the online birthday card and posted in response to Teigen’s request included, “May the fleas of 1,000 camels infest your butthole. Happy Birthday!”
