Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was caught on a hot mic Thursday saying, “He likes us. He likes me anyway,” about President Trump.
Schumer was about to hit the Senate floor to discuss a number of issues, including Equifax’s massive security breach, Trump’s proposed border wall, and the supposed agreement he reached along with his House counterpart Nancy Pelosi to work to preserve protections for Dreamers.
But before he got started, Schumer had a little hot mic snafu. Off camera, he was caught saying on C-SPAN2’s live feed: “Sorry, just got here. Anything new?”
Then a few moments later: “He likes us! He likes me, anyway.”
Schumer was presumably talking about himself and Pelosi, following their meeting Wednesday where they supposedly struck a deal with the president to protect young immigrants.
Schumer can be heard telling the unseen colleague that the statement he and Pelosi put out regarding the meeting was “exactly accurate.”
“Here’s what I told him,” he went on to say. “I said: ‘Mr. President, you’re much better off if you can sometimes step right and sometimes step left. If you have to step just in one direction, you’re boxed.’ He gets that.”
“We are always going to work it out and it will make us more productive too,” Schumer added.
