CNN has fired comedian Kathy Griffin from the network’s annual New Year’s Eve program, which she cohosted with anchor Anderson Cooper for a decade.

“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” a network spokesperson told TheWrap in a statement.

The announcement came just one day after the comedian posed in a photo with a replica of a severed head of Donald Trump.

Griffin’s photoshoot sparked widespread backlash Tuesday from both sides of the aisle, forcing Griffin to issue an apology.

“I crossed the line,” Griffin said in a video post via Twitter. “I went way too far. The image is too disturbing, I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career, I will continue. I ask for your forgiveness. Taking down the image. I’m going to ask the photographer to take down the image. And I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far. I made a mistake and I was wrong.”

The fallout didn’t take long. Within hours, toilet stool company Squatty Potty announced it was dumping Griffin from its recent ad campaign.

Anderson Cooper also weighed in Tuesday, quickly distancing himself from Griffin.

“For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,” he Tweeted. “It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”
