CNN Names Feist D.C. Bureau Chief

Network’s political director promoted to top job in Washington

Notable promotion in the world of cable news: Sam Feist, CNN's political director and vice president of Washington-based programming, has been promoted to D.C. bureau chief, CNN EVP Ken Jautz announced on Tuesday.

Feist will oversee daily operations of the bureau and lead all newsgathering and programming, effective immediately, and will report to Jautz.

After working as a freelance producer at CNN’s London bureau in 1990, Feist joined CNN full-time at its Atlanta headquarters in 1991. During the 1992 presidential campaign, he moved to the Washington bureau where he has been ever since.

Feist has served CNN’s political director and VP of Washington-based programming since January 2009 — overseeing "John King, USA," "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," "State of the Union with Candy Crowley" and "Reliable Sources."

He was the political director during the 2008 presidential race, overseeing coverage that won CNN a Peabody Award.
