Colbert Basks in the Glow of Trump’s ‘Filthy’ ‘No Talent’ Diss: ‘I Won’ (Video)

“Late Show” host also rips Trump’s ever-shifting explanations for firing FBI Director James Comey

Trump and Colbert

Stephen Colbert had a one word response to being denounced by President Donald Trump: “Yay!”

Colbert got on Trump’s bad side last week after calling him “Putin’s cock holster” on “The Late Show.” And wouldn’t you know it, POTUS didn’t like that at all. Sure, he’s the president, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t make time to angrily denounce the “Late Show” host in a rambling interview with Time Magazine published earlier today.

Trump called Colbert a “filthy,” “no-talent guy” whose “show was dying.” And Colbert loved it.

“The President of the United States has personally come after me and my show. And there’s only one thing to say. Yay!” said Colbert at the start of tonight’s show.

Colbert continued: “Mr. Trump, there is a lot you don’t understand. But I never thought one of those things would be show business! Don’t you know, for a year I have been have been trying to get you to say my name!? And you were very restrained. Admirably restrained. But now, you did it!”

To that, says Colbert: “I won!”

Colbert also took a moment to rip into Trump’s ever-shifting explanation of the firing of FBI Director James Comey. “No one seems to know why,” Colbert said. “Donald Trump doesn’t seem to know why.”

Colbert noted that Trump first said it was done on the recommendation of Assistant Attorney General “and 50-year old just hitting puberty” Rod Rosenstein, who Colbert noted supposedly threatened to resign over being held responsible for Comey’s firing. “It’ll all be detailed in his new book, ‘Threatening Courage,’” said Colbert.

Trump has since switched to insisting that he was planning to fire Comey regardless. “Totally believable,” Colbert said, because “Trump does have a long history of doing whatever he wants, regardless, but hey when you’re a star they let you do it,” a reference to Trump’s infamous comments to Billy Bush that were leaked during the 2016 election.

As for Comey himself, he “should have known he was in trouble when Trump pulled out the Tic Tacs.”
