Stephen Colbert took a page from Donald Trump on Thursday to describe the breakneck pace of news coming out of the ongoing Trump impeachment inquiry.

“Uh, really fast things are happening,” Colbert said during his opening monologue on “The Late Show” Thursday. “To paraphrase our president, the news has been moving on us like a b—-.”

Colbert ran down the latest developments, which include the release Thursday morning of the whistleblower complaint about Trump that led Democrats to open the impeachment inquiries. Noting that the complainant said he or she received information that Trump “is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election,” Colbert joked that it wasn’t the first time.

“Soliciting interference from a foreign power to influence a U.S. election? Well you know what they say: if at first you do succeed, try, try that again,” Colbert said, referencing Trump’s infamous “Russia, if you’re watching” moment from the 2016 election.

There’s more, including a look back at when Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he didn’t think it would be bad to look at intel about an election opponent provided by a foreign government. Watch the whole thing below:
