Following President Trump’s very busy day on social media, Stephen Colbert kicked off the first “The Late Show” of 2018 with a look at what POTUS had to say.

First, Colbert was confused by a 4:48 AM tweet in which Trump appeared to call for Hillary Clinton confidante Huma Abedin to be jailed, during which he referenced something that didn’t seem familiar to most observers.

“‘Remember pictures of sailors on submarine?’,” Colbert said. “I think grandpa’s reminiscing again.”

Colbert also noted that Trump accused his own Justice Department of being part of “deep state,” something White House Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump didn’t actually mean several hours later.

“Who got to her?” Colbert asked. “Could it be the Deep State?”

Colbert also touched on Trump’s early AM tweet in which he bragged about the lack of commercial airline-related deaths in 2017. “Trump took credit for no one dying in a plane crash this year,” Colbert said, unveiling what he said would be Trump’s 2020 campaign slogan.
