Stephen Colbert cannot believe that his soul still contains the capacity to be shocked by something President Trump says. So imagine his surprise on Thursday, when the leader of the free world used Twitter to mock “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s face.
Here’s what Trump had posted:
I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..

…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!

“First of all, someone bleeding badly at your door and you say ‘No’? It sounds like your health care plan,” Colbert quipped that evening.
Fortunately, it wasn’t just the late-night hosts ripping Trump to shreds this time over his un-presidential behavior. Even Sen. Lindsey Graham got in on the reprimanding.
Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.

Here’s the thing though: Graham’s criticism still didn’t go far enough. Even in messy politics, Trump’s level of personal attacks are an anomaly.
“This is not what’s wrong with American politics … this is what’s wrong with the American President,” Colbert said last night. “Let’s stop pretending that Trump is a symptom of something — he’s the disease.”
