Columbia Pictures has acquired the rights to develop the Dutch thriller "Taped" into an English-language film, the studio announced on Tuesday.
"Taped" centers on a young couple who inadvertently tape the murder of a young man by a corrupt cop while relaxing in Buenos Aires.
Needless to say, the vacation takes a turn for the worse.
The movie was released on Feb. 23 in the Netherlands.
The remake of the film will be produced by Red Wagon Entertainment’s Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher.
“We’re huge fans of 'Taped' – and believe that Doug and Lucy have just the right take on the material to adapt it for English speaking audiences," Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia Pictures, said in a statement.
Wick and Fisher are currently producing "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, with Baz Luhrmann directing, and "Wettest County," a prohibition-era gangster film directed by John Hillcoat and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Gary Oldman and Guy Pearce.
NL Films, the Dutch production company behind "Taped," will serve as an executive producer on the new production.
