Comcast Hires Kyle McSlarrow to Bolster D.C. Clout

The former aide to Republican Senate Majority Leaders Bob Dole and Trent Lott becomes president, Comcast/NBC Universal Washington

NBC Universal's parent, the Comcast Corporation, has hired Republican insider Kyle McSlarrow to run its business operations and public policy efforts in Washington, D.C., the company announced Wednesday.

As president, Comcast/NBC Universal, Washington, he will oversee the company's lobbying and business efforts.

Since March 2005, he has been president and CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. Before that, he was Deputy Secretary of Energy and before that he was vice president of political and government affairs at Grassroots.com, an internet company that markets web-based political tools and services. He also was National Chairman of former Vice President Dan Quayle's 2000 presidential campaign and deputy chief of staff and chief counsel for Senate Majority Leaders Bob Dole and Trent Lott.

In his new job, he will report to David L. Cohen, Comcast's executive vice president. He will work closely with Comcast Cable President Neil Smit and NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke.

In a written statement, Brian Roberts, Comcast's chairman and CEO, said, “Kyle has been a tremendous leader and tireless advocate for the cable and media industry in Washington, D.C. He is widely respected throughout the industry for his leadership, deep understanding of the cable and programming business, and ability to manage the interest of a broad spectrum of major corporations."
