Comedy Central has picked up “The Onion Sports Network” pilot and ordered 10 half-hour episodes, the network announced Wednesday.
The untitled scripted series – based on the satirical newspaper’s online video series – is slated to premiere in the first quarter of 2011, Comedy Central said.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s head of original programming and production, said the show “will skewer the sports world, and the media coverage of sports, with the same sharpness we’ve seen applied to the world of politics and popular culture."
