Comic Book Dorks Organizing DC Comics Protest

DC’s major-hitting characters are going to be reset to issue one, to the dismay of many diehard fans, who plan a protest at Comic-Con

Diehard comic book fans were shocked to hear that DC Comics announced last month their plan to relaunch 52 popular titles in September. And they're planning a protest march at Comic-Con to let their feelings be known.

The new releases, which aim to rebuild the brands of DC’s top characters, will reset long-running plot lines such as Superman’s ‘Action Comics,’ which recently produced its 900th issue.

With each new issue on the market, both hard-copy and digital versions will be made available same-day, in an effort to appease more traditional comic book readers while simultaneously building bridges to a new audience.

In an effort to express their dissent, more than 200 people pledged to attend the July 23rd “DC Original Protest Walk” at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego.

“Are you utterly baffled, disappointed and just ANGRY to see how DC ruins your favorite character’s design and wipes decades of comic history out of the mainstream universe?,” writes protest Facebook event creator Laura Hornack. “Well, you’re not alone!”
