On the heels of wrapping WB’s “Suicide Squad,” Common has been cast as the villain in Lionsgate’s “John Wick 2” opposite Keanu Reeves, TheWrap has learned.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Common is expected to play the muscle for a female crime lord who comes after Reeves’ ex-hitman.

Chad Stahelski returns to direct the sequel, but he’ll be on his own this time, as his collaborator David Leitch is preparing to direct the Charlize Theron thriller “Coldest City” for Focus.

Basil Iwanyk is producing “John Wick 2,” which starts shooting this week.

Common recently starred in Ava DuVernay’s critically acclaimed drama “Selma” but he also has a bunch of macho movies under his belt, including “Terminator Salvation,” “Run All Night,” “Wanted,” “American Gangster,” “Smokin’ Aces” and “Street Kings.”

Common, who will also star in NBC’s upcoming musical “The Wiz Live,” is represented by CAA and Myman Greenspan.
