New Line Cinema is developing a spinoff of “The Conjuring 2,” which will be titled “The Nun,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

David Leslie Johnson, who co-wrote “The Conjuring 2,” has been tapped to write the screenplay, while James Wan (director of the “Conjuring” movies) and Peter Safran, are producing.

The 2014 movie “Annabelle” was also a spinoff of the “Conjuring” series. That film grossed $257 million worldwide on a budget of $6.5 million.

“The Conjuring 2” debuted last weekend and made $40.4 million domestically on a $40 million budget. Worldwide, its total has come to $115.8 million. The first “Conjuring” film had a production budget of $20 million and earned $318 million worldwide.

Both films have stellar “fresh” ratings on Rotten Tomatoes — “The Conjuring” received a score of 86 percent, while its sequel scored 77 percent.
