CW Gives Away ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Season 1 for Free on iTunes

Network looks to build buzz in advance of Emmy season

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

In an effort to boost buzz in time for the Emmys, The CW has made the entire first season of its new series “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” available on iTunes for free.

The show has already been renewed for a second season on the youth-skewing network, though ratings were low, averaging a 0.3 in the 18-49 demo.

The show does have its passionate fans though, and its semi-cult status has already translated to some awards recognition. In January, star and executive producer Rachel Bloom took home a Golden Globe for her role as the obsessive Rebecca Bunch, a former New York lawyer who moves cross country in pursuit of her childhood love. She also beat out her peers at the Critics Choice Awards that same month.

An Emmy nomination for either “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” or Bloom herself would be a huge win for the CW, which hasn’t received any major Emmy nominations in its 10 years on the the air. Following last year’s snubs for Gina Rodriguez and “Jane the Virgin,” the network is looking to finally break that streak.

All 18 episodes of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season one are available for free now on iTunes.
