‘Daily Show’ Pals Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert Reenact Their Old Second City Sketch (Video)

This is how they got hired on the Comedy Central show

Most know Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert from their time together on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” but the two went even further back into their working history on Thursday.

Before either was hired at the cable “news” show, they spent time together with the sketch comedy troupe Second City. So on Thursday when Carell stopped by Colbert’s “Late Show,” they decided to reminisce by reenacting the sketch, “Waiters Who Are Nauseated by Food,” that got each hired on “Daily Show.”

We’ll let Colbert describe how he came up with the sketch, which is exactly how it sounds: “When I was a waiter, I used to read the specials list when I was hungover from the night before and pretend to be nauseated for my other waiters.”

You can see what that looked like in the video above.

Carell is set to star in “The Morning Show, one of the debut shows for Apple’s soon-to-be-launched streaming service, Apple TV+. He stars with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in the series, which sees Carell play a disgraced morning news anchor fired for sexual misconduct. It launches Nov. 1 for $4.99 a month alongside other Apple originals like “See,” “Dickinson” and “For All Mankind.”
