NBC has ordered six episodes of the Dane Cook comedy pilot "Next Caller," starring the comedian as an alpha-male DJ.
Written and produced by Stephen Falk, the single-camera comedy from Universal and Lionsgate finds Cook's character, Cam, working with a "plucky, feminist co-host" at a satellite radio station, according to the network. Marc Buckland directed the pilot.
Besides Cook, it stars Colette Wolfe, Joy Osmanski, and Wolé Parks. Jeffrey Tambor guest stars in the pilot, and Ryan Devlin is also a guest star.
The star of films including "Good Luck Chuck" and "Employee of the Month," Cook has built a huge following as a stand-up comedian, but this will be his first TV series.
He played himself in an episode of FX's "Louie," in which he and star Louie C.K. addressed claims that Cook has stolen jokes from C.K.
