Sony Pictures roused movie exhibitors at CinemaCon by finally offering a look at “The Dark Tower.”

The epic literary series by Stephen King and Sony adaptive labor of love did not disappoint — glimpses of a highly-stylized, scorched-earth epic was screened.

As Gunslinger Roland Deschain, the footage turned out to be a showcase for star Idris Elba — taking down enemies with a molten silver pistol. Matthew McConaughey plays the bad guy known as the Man in Black, and has a high-fashion lens in this world envisioned by Nikolaj Arcel.

Newcomer Tom Taylor plays young Jake, a boy in New York who has dreams set in Roland’s world.
King is producing the film with Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman, who is also sharing writing credit with Arcel, Jeff Pinkner and Anders Thomas Jensen.

Sony will release the project under its Columbia Pictures banner, with co-producer and co-financier Media Rights Capital (“House of Cards”).  No footage from the film has  yet been released for fans.

“The Dark Tower” arrives in theaters July 28.
