David Fincher Photographs Ben Affleck Cuddling a Dead Chick For ‘Gone Girl’ Cover (Photo)

The director agreed to shoot EW’s magazine cover himself when the outlet contacted 20th Century Fox for an exclusive inside look at the making of the movie

Ben Affleck cuddles a dead Rosamund Pike on the new Entertainment Weekly cover featuring the stars of “Gone Girl,” which is based on author Gillian Flynn’s 2012 best-selling novel of the same name.

Since Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay, is a former EW writer, getting exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the 20th Century Fox production probably wasn’t that hard, but the the studio awarded the outlet with another bonus: Director David Fincher wanted to shoot the magazine cover himself.

“The result is an unsettling portrait of love gone demented,” EW wrote.

“Gone Girl” lands in theaters on Oct. 3 and follows a married couple (Affleck, Pike) whose relationship hits the rocks after they leave New York City for the Midwest. When the wife vanishes, the husband becomes the prime suspect.

Fans of the novel may still be caught off guard by the thriller’s twists and turns, as Fincher and Flynn worked together to rework the novel’s story for the big screen.

“There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie,” Flynn said.
