Demián Bichir Lands ‘Grand Hotel’ Pilot at ABC

Academy Award nominee will play male lead Gonzalo Cardenas

Demián Bichir has been cast opposite Roselyn Sanchez for ABC’s “Grand Hotel” pilot.

The Academy Award nominee will play the male lead Gonzalo Cardenas, the charismatic owner of the Grand Riviera Hotel. Bichir will play opposite leading lady Sanchez, who has been cast as Gonzalo’s wife Gigi. Gonzalo built himself up from nothing — using his super-charm — and intends to do anything he needs to maintain his status.

Based on the Spanish series “Gran Hotel,” the drama is described as a soapy exploration of the family behind a popular Miami Beach hotel, the staff who run it and the explosive secrets hiding beneath the perfect exterior.

Executive producer Eva Longoria said: “There was no one else I could envision in the role of Gonzalo.”

Bichir’s recent projects include “The Hateful Eight” and “Alien: Covenant.” He was nominated in 2012 for Best Performance by an Actor for his performance in “A Better Life.” He will also appear in the upcoming Corin Hardy film “The Nun.”

Bichir is repped by CAA.
