Demi Lovato Performs ‘Skyscraper’ at Do Something Awards (Video)

The former Disney star makes a strong comeback on the VH1 ceremony hosted by Jane Lynch

Earlier this year, teen sensation Demi Lovato quit her popular Disney program "Sonny With a Chance" after she emerged from a three-month stint at a rehab facility, where she was being treated for bulimia and self-injury.

The young star, who turns 19 on Saturday, said she was leaving the show to focus on her music career because "being in front of a camera would make me nervous."

Lovato didn't look very nervous Thursday night as she belted out her new single, "Skyscraper," at the Do Something Awards, which were broadcast by VH1 and hosted by Jane Lynch. It marked the first time she has performed the song live.

Do Something is an organization urging young adults to get involved in causes they care about. The annual awards are given out to people who have made a difference through volunteer work or activism.

Lovato's third album, Unbroken, will come out September 20.
