Detroit, Houston Critics: ‘Social Network,’ Ho Hum

Two more critics groups line up behind the David Fincher film, though Detroit group also showers awards on “Winter’s Bone”

The Detroit Film Critics Society and the Houston Film Critics Society named "The Social Network" the best film of 2010 on Saturday.

In other news, the sun rose in the east.

The two group did what nearly every other critics organization has done in naming David Fincher's drama the year's best movie. The Houston critics went further and gave the film its Best Director (Fincher), Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Actor (Jesse Eisenberg) awards as well.

The only other film to receive multiple awards in Houston was "Inception," which was named Best Picture runner-up and also won for cinematographer Wally Pfister and composer Hans Zimmer.

Natalie Portman was named Best Actress for "Black Swan," while the supporting awards went to Christian Bale for "The Fighter" and Hailee Steinfeld for "True Grit."

Jennifer LawrenceThe Detroit critics, on the other hand, gave "The Social Network" its top award but looked elsewhere in every other category. Debra Granik's rural drama "Winter's Bone" won three of the DFCS's eight awards, while David O. Russell's "The Fighter" landed both Supporting Actor and Actress honors for Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

"Winter's Bone" star Jennifer Lawrence (left) was involved in all three of her film's Detroit awards, wining Best Actress and Best Breakthrough Performance and serving as part of the film's Best Ensemble. Colin Firth was named Best Actor for "The King's Speech," his second consecutive DFCS win after being chosen for "A Single Man" last year.
