“Dexter” and “State of Affairs” actor James Remar has been cast on MTV’s “The Shannara Chronicles,” which was previously titled simply “Shannara.”
Based on a series of Terry Brooks novels that began in 1977, the fantasy drama is set in our world, but thousands of years after the destruction of civilization. It’s centered on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape earth’s future.
Remar will play Cephelo, the leader of the Rovers who roam the Four Lands.
“Spartacus” actor Manu Bennett and “Carrie Diaries” alum Austin Butler also star on “The Shannara Chronicles.”
Best known for playing Harry Morgan, late father to Michael C. Hall’s titular character, on Showtime’s “Dexter” for eight seasons, Remar currently stars on NBC’s “State of Affairs.” His other TV roles include FX’s “Wilfred,” ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” and HBO’s “Sex and the City,” among many others.
Remar is currently shooting the film, “February,” and recently starred in “Horns” and Bob Yari’s Ernest Hemingway biopic “Papa.”
Ordered straight to series by MTV in July, “Shannara’s” first two episodes will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”), who also serves as an executive producer. Writers Al Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”) will executive produce, and Jon Favreau, Terry Brooks and Dan Farah will also executive produce. Sonar Entertainment is MTV’s producing partner and the international distributor.
Gersh represents Remar.
