‘Diary of a Future President’: Gina Rodriguez Recounts Scarier Time Than Being POTUS – Middle School (Video)

Disney+ series debuts Jan. 17

Disney+ has released the first trailer for its upcoming Gina Rodriguez-produced drama “Diary of a Future President,” which features a more terrifying ordeal than being in charge of an entire country: surviving middle school.

The series features Rodriguez as the current POTUS, but stars Tess Romero as the 12-year version of Rodriguez’s Elena. The series follows the younger Elena (Romero), an unabashed, ultra-observant 12-year-old with a strong point of view, who walks through the world with purpose and confidence. The series also stars Charlie Bushnel, Selenis Leyva and Michael Weaver.

Written and created by “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” alum Ilana Peña, “Diary of a Future President” is told through the narration of a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl’s diary. “The Carmichael Show’s” Robin Shorr is attached to serve as showrunner on the series, which hails CBS Television Studios. Rodriguez will serve as executive producer alongside Emily Gipson of her production company I Can and I Will.

“Diary of a Future President” will be Disney+’s first original scripted series since its first wave of originals that included “The Mandalorian” and “High School Musical.” It will premiere on Friday, Jan. 17. Like all other Disney+ series, episodes will roll out weekly.
