Disney on Friday became the first studio to pass $1 billion at the box office this year, hitting the mark despite the soft debut of mega-budget "The Lone Ranger" last week.
Disney beat Universal, Warner Bros, and Paramount to the punch on Friday, following the release of just four films this year.

"Iron Man 3" was the studio's biggest hit, securing $406.6 million domestically, while spring blockbuster "Oz the Great and Powerful" raked in nearly $235 million and Disney-Pixar's latest hit, "Monsters University," has managed to make just over $227 million since it's June 21 release.
The studio has six more releases scheduled before the ball drops at midnight on Dec. 31.
Among the upcoming moneymakers are "Thor: The Dark World," "Frozen" and family-friendly Oscar bait, "Saving Mr. Banks."
