Disney’s ‘Tangled’ Passes $100M at the Domestic Box Office

Three-D animated film passes benchmark after only 15 days … which is good for the studio, given its staggering cost

Disney announced Thursday that its 3D-animated "Rapunzel" adaptation "Tangled" has passed the $100 million at the domestic box office after 15 days.

"With its creative storytelling and loveable characters, 'Tangled' is the sort of cinematic adventure that makes Disney films so appealing to audiences of all ages," said Disney chairman Rich Ross.

For the studio, "relieving" might be a more appropriate term than appealing, with reports surfacing that the the film's production budget came in at around $250 million.

Foreign grosses should help Disney at least break even, with the film grossing $56 million internationally to date while distributed across only 35 percent of the globe.
