Providence Island is about to meet one of history’s most notorious pirates.

Ray Stevenson joins Starz’s “Black Sails” as Blackbeard for Season 3, the premium network told TheWrap.

Known as Edward Teach, Blackbeard returns to the island to settle some unfinished business. A great deal has changed during his absence, though, and he will have to disrupt cemented alliances and challenge new ones to achieve the impossible.

Stevenson is best known for playing Titus Pollo on the HBO/BBC television series “Rome.” His other television credits include Showtime’s “Dexter” and “King Arthur” opposite Clive Owen.

He also appeared in the 2014 blockbuster movie “Divergent,” and reprised the role of Marcus Eaton in the recently released sequel, “Insurgent.” His many film credits include Marvel Comics’ hit “Thor,” “Book of Eli,” “The Punisher WarZone,” “Kill the Irishman” and “Jayne Mansfield’s Car.”

Stevenson joins returning “Black Sails” cast members Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Zach McGowan, Clara Paget and Toby Schmitz.

Independent Talent Group, UTA and Gary Ventimiglia represent Stevenson.

The Season 2 finale of “Black Sails” airs Saturday at 9 p.m. Season 3 is set to premiere in 2016.
