‘Hangover’ Director on Box Office Face-Off With ‘Fast & Furious 6’: ‘What the F—!’

Todd Phillips responds to question of whether he's nervous about "Hangover III" opening against the Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson action movie

Director Todd Phillips was at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday to show off the third installment of "The Hangover," and there was one question he could not avoid – is he nervous about Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson?

“The Hangover Part III,” starring Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Phillips' merry band of tricksters, will appear in theaters the same day, May 24, as “Fast & Furious 6.” That pits two billion-dollar franchises, neither of which has ever missed at the box office, square against one another just a week after the next “Star Trek” opens.

Daunting?

Phillips, on-stage during Warner Bros' presentation at CinemaCon, raised the subject himself after some prodding.

“All these press people back stage are asking me, 'are you nervous?,'” Phillips said.

“Come on it’s fucking Vin Diesel and The Rock,” he added. “What the fuck!”

When asked for a response, a Universal spokeswoman offered a challenge, “Bring it on Todd Phillips.”

With The Rock’s blessing, there’s only one solution – cage match.
