Documentarians to Honor Errol Morris

International Documentary Assn. taps filmmaker for Career Achievement Award.

The International Documentary Association has chosen "The Fog of War" director Errol Morris to receive its annual Career Achievement Award.

The laurel will be presented as part of the IDA’s annual awards gala on Dec. 4 at the Directors Guild of America theater in Hollywood.

Morris fulfills the IDA’s description of the award recipient: "a filmmaker who has made a major impact on the documentary genre through a long and distinguished body of work." In addition to the Oscar-winning "Fog of War," his documentary features include "The Thin Blue Line," "A Brief History of Time" and "Gates of Heaven."

Previous recipients of the IDA’s career award include HBO’s Sheila Nevins, Michael Apted, Albert Maysles, Ken Burns, Haskell Wexler and last year’s recipient, Werner Herzog.
