Donald Trump isn’t stopping at Fox News, CNBC and Macy’s — the real estate mogul is calling for a boycott against Starbucks over the company’s decision to produce a more general red holiday cup.
“Did you read about Starbucks?” Trump asked in front of a Springfield, Illinois crowd on Monday. “No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks.”
The Donald then casually suggested a boycott of the mega-coffee chain — but it’s unclear how much he’ll actually “care” if his supporters take his suggestion seriously.
“Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don’t know,” he said. “Seriously, I don’t care.”
He pointed out this would go against his own interests since Trump Tower in Manhattan has a successful Starbucks. “That’s the end of that lease, but who cares?” he continued.
The Starbucks holiday cup controversy has been, excuse the pun, brewing over the last few days as religious conservatives have responded negatively to the company’s more generic holiday-season cups.
