“Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos grilled senior Donald Trump aide Kellyanne Conway on Friday about the president-elect spreading fake news through social media.
Fake news is a major issue across the media landscape these days, and Trump recently tweeted, “I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”
“That claim is groundless,” Stephanopoulos told Conway. “Isn’t it irresponsible for the President-elect to make false statements like that?”
Conway responded by saying a better example of fake news is telling people that the popular vote is more important than the Electoral College.
“I watched ABC and other networks religiously,” Conway said. “All I saw was ‘road to 270,’ I never heard ‘road to the popular vote.’”
Stephanopoulos responded, saying he isn’t questioning the victory simply questioning Trump’s decision to spread fake news. Conway dodged the question a few times and Stephanopoulos visibly grew increasingly frustrated, asking, “Simple question Kellyanne. Is that statement by President-elect Trump true?”
Conway, who is usually as cool as they come under pressure, stalled before pivoting and changed the discussion to Hillary Clinton.
