Donald Trump’s Twitter Future Will Be ‘Very Restrained’ (Video)

President-elect tells “60 Minutes” that social media has given him “a method of fighting back”

Now that Donald Trump is the president-elect, his assertive tweeting style may be getting a new look. “If I use it at all, I’m going to be very restrained,” he told Lesley Stahl in an interview airing on Sunday’s “60 Minutes.”

It’s no secret that Trump has created waves with his frequently confrontational and harsh comments on Twitter, but it looks like that might change as he steps into the role of POTUS. (Notice that we said “might.”)

“I find it tremendous,” he says. “It’s a modern form of communication. There should be nothing we should be ashamed of. It’s where it’s at.”

Although Trump vows to work on his Twitter self-control, with 14.8 million followers on Twitter followers, 14.4 million on Facebook and 3.8 million on Instagram, he’s not going to give it up entirely — the numbers prove too great to ignore.

“I think I picked up yesterday 100,000 people,” Trump said. “I’m not saying I love it, but it does get the word out. When you give me a bad story or when you give me an inaccurate story or when somebody other than you and another network, or whatever, because of course, CBS would never do a thing like that, right? I have a method of fighting back. That’s very tough.”

He’s not kidding when he calls social media “a great form of communication,” one that he believes helped him win the presidency because, in fact, it did.

“I really believe that the fact that I have such power in terms of numbers with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, et cetera, I think it helped me win all of these races where they’re spending much more money than I spent. And I won. I think that social media has more power than the money they spent, and I think maybe to a certain extent, I proved that.”

Trump and his family will appear in their first post-election television interviews on Sunday’s “60 Minutes,” 7 p.m. ET on CBS.
