Donald Trump announced Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket on Friday morning.

The presumptive GOP nominee made the announcement on his favorite social media platform, Twitter, but it was originally supposed to be a bigger spectacle. Trump, however, postponed the festivities in wake of the terror attack in Nice, France, on Thursday.

“I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate. News conference tomorrow at 11:00 A.M.,” Trump tweeted.

Pence has a lot of policy experience, which is something Trump coveted in a running mate. Prior to being elected governor, Pence represented Indiana’s Sixth Congressional District in Congress.

Pence is considered a staunch social conservative that will help Trump with religious conservative voters. He is also viewed as someone who could help Trump navigate Congress.

While Trump continued to deny he made a final decision until he tweeted the announcement, CBS News’ Major Garrett reported that Pence was the selection nearly 24 hours before the tweet.

The Republican National Convention kicks off on Monday, July 18 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Pence and First his wife, Karen, have been married since 1985 and have three adult children, Michael, Charlotte and Audrey.
