Donald Trump Calls Violent Protestors ‘Thugs Who Were Flying the Mexican Flag’

Presidential candidate says, “The rally inside was big and beautiful, but outside, criminals!”

Donald Trump Rally

Anti-Donald Trump protestors caused chaos during a rally for the presidential candidate in New Mexico last night. This morning, Trump bashed them on Twitter.

“The protesters in New Mexico were thugs who were flying the Mexican flag. The rally inside was big and beautiful, but outside, criminals!” he wrote.

Demonstrators threw burning T-shirts, rocks and plastic at police officers, overturned trashcans and even knocked down barricades.

Police responded by firing pepper spray and smoke grenades into the crowd outside the Albuquerque Convention Center in what police later called a “riot.”

Trump was repeatedly interrupted during the rally and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee resisted removal by security officers. Trump mocked protestors throughout the ordeal, instructing security to remove the disrupters and mocking their actions by telling them to “go home to mommy.”

“How old is this kid?” Trump asked about one protestor. “Still wearing diapers.”

Glass was smashed outside the entrance to the convention center and protesters outside overran barricades and clashed with police in riot gear. Albuquerque police said several officers were treated for injuries after getting hit by rocks thrown by protesters and one person was arrested.

“This was not a protest, this was a riot. These are hate groups,” Albuquerque attorney Doug Antoon said of the anti-Trump demonstrators.
